Introducing The New Nex Flow™ ½” Ring Blade™ Air Wipe

The Nex Flow™ Ring Blade ™ Compressed Air Operated Air Wipe, already used extensively for blowing off liquids and dirt from extruded surfaces is now available in ½” diameter for blowing off small diameter parts such as wire or small rods.

Priced among the lowest of any competitive but often poor copy, the Nex Flow™ Ring Blade™ air wipe comes with an anodized aluminum body, and stainless steel shim and screws at a price below products containing only cheap plastic shims and not even anodized bodies. Nex Flow™ Ring Blade™ air wipes are complete with materials you “pay extra” for from many over-priced competitors.

The Nex Flow™ Ring Blade™
Air Wipe provides a uniform 360 degree stream of “amplified” air flow for blow off, drying, cleaning and cooling of almost any extruded shape, hose, pipe, cable, wire, automotive EPDM trim, rod and other materials. The unique split design makes it easy to clamp over and around the surface and to insert the material in between the two jointed halves , eliminating any need for threading. Amplified air occurs by en-training air along with the small amount of compressed used converting pressure to “high flow” and velocity for a strong blow-off force while minimizing compressed air use.

The high temperature version comes with a stainless steel braided coupling hose at very little added cost and still much lower than competitive units offering the same, and often less quality.

Available in the new ½” as well as the original 1”, 2”, 3”, 4”, 6” diameters.

Applications include the following:

1. Blow off contamination and dust from surfaces
2. Cooling of hot extruded materials
3. Wipe wet surfaces uniformly
4. Drying of tubing, rods and extruded profiles of all shapes
5. Remove excess moisture from automotive EPDM profiles
6. Dry wire, hose, tubing and wire optic extrusions
7. Minimize loss of solution due to drag-out
8. Cleaning of paint gun tipes
9. Drying of screen print and ink jet printed surfaces
10. Cleaning of ribbon and strips of material
11. Drying after washing, cleaning, coating, coating or plating of shapes
12. Window profiles and other extrusions

The Nex Flow™ Ring Blade™ Air Wipe has proven to be of high quality, high performance and with low noise levels. Its anodized aluminum body withstands the plant environment longer than often non-anodized competitive models.

How it works…..
The Silent X-Stream™ Air Blade™ Air Knife is designed to work with a standard compressed air supply. Air enters the air knife into the plenum chamber an exits the small gap slot (normally .002” or .050 mm).
The specially designed angles at the exit entrains the surrounding air utilizing the coanda effect and converts the pressure in the plenum chamber as the air exits into an amplified (40 times at 6” from the air knife), high flow, high velocity narrow and laminar profile of air.
The resulting flow recovers energy that would normally lost in pressure drop and noise. The output is a strong blow off force with laminar flow that can clean, dry, cool, and blow off with up to a 90% energy saving in compressed air when replacing drilled holes in pipe or rows of standard nozzles.

NEW Nex Flow™ Hardened X-Stream™ Air Blade™ Air Knife

The Nex Flow™ Silent X-Stream™ Air Blade™ Air Knife has proven itself to be one of the most quiet compressed air operated air knives on the market.
The Hard Anodized Aluminum Version is Ideal for Abrasive Environments and in Dealing with Sticky Materials
What to look for…..
1. DESIGN: The Silent X-Stream™ Air Blade™ Air Knife is a sleek aerodynamic design. Just compare the noise level to others and the lower noise will be immediately apparent. Less noise an mean greater energy efficiency.
All Nex Flow™ air knives are either made of anodized aluminum or stainless steel.
2. COATINGS: Some manufacturers only offer un-anodized aluminum air knives which oxidize after a year and look terrible. The Nex Flow™ aluminum air knives however come in two options – standard gold color anodized or “hard anodized” for particularly difficult environments. The hard anodized versions are ideal for environments where they may encounter abrasive materials and sticky materials.
The hard anodized units hold up significantly better in such environments and reduces the need to go to stainless steel. Of course, Nex Flow™ also offers stainless steel air knives.
3. SHIMS: One of the biggest complaints with competitive compressed air operated air knives is the use of a plastic shim to maintain the gap. Even with good filtration these plastic shims tend to wear out over a short period of time and need to be replaced. Nex Flow™ only provide quality “stainless steel shims” which are not subject to this wear and tear – al at a lower price than competitive units.
4. QUALITY: Some cheap knockoffs have started to appear on the market of all makes and manufacture but it is easy to identify their poor quality. Tight quality control tolerances maintain the “air exit “gap” of the Nex Flow™ Silent X-Stream™ Air Blade™ air knife to maintain an even air flow across the face of each air knife for all the different lengths. Volume production to service our customers worldwide maintains our ability to keep prices low while maintaining high quality at a decent price.
The Nex Flow™ Silent X-Stream™ Air Blade™ Air Knife has proven itself to be one of the most efficient, quiet and well designed air knives on the market. Its compact and optimum design with quality manufacture, anodizing, stainless steel shim makes it the ideal choice for blow off, cooling, cleaning and drying applications.

WORTH REPEATING – Nex Flow™ Static Control Air Blade™ Ionizers – air knives with static bars

Silent X-Stream™ Air-Blade™ Air Knife

We Published this in November but with “static season” in full force in the northern hemisphere be felt it to be worth repeating!

Nex Flow™  combines its Silent X-stream Air Blade air knife and its Standard Air Blade air knife with an ionizing bar (also referred to as a static bar or anti-static bar) in order to remove static at a distance from a charged surface and also to clean charged surfaces of dirt and particulate.
There is tremendous misconception in the market place due to some companies – shall we say – stretching reality
You may have seen claims of some companies to remove static charge from 20 feet away utilizing static bars with air knives.   Removing static charge actually depends on several factors:
–      the  size of the charge
-       Distance from the static bar
-       the strength of the static bar.
An air knife and static bar system does remove a static charge from 20 feet away but it is NOT instantaneous.   Nex Flow™   has had to replace equipment from companies making ridiculous claims to remove static from 20 feet away without clarifying that there is a time lag to have the “ions” generated from the static bar reach the surface to neutralize the existing static charge. On very fast moving surfaces in machines the system may not remove the charge for the limited exposure time it has to their static bar and air knife.

In fact, even a static bar “alone” can remove static charge from 20 feet away given enough time – but “time” is the key word here.  On fast moving machines, available time can be in milliseconds

The Silent X-Stream Air Blade Ionizer is quiet, efficient in air use and effective – can use either a standard strength static bar or extra strong static bar
Here is basically how AC static eliminators work with air knives.  (There are DC type static eliminators as well but normally AC static eliminators are used with air knives). Static bars “ionize” the air utilizing a corona effect at the pins along the static bar.  They create positive and negative “ions”.
The negative ions created cancel out the positive charge on a charged surface and the positive ions cancel out the negative charge on a charged surface. It takes time for the ions to migrate to the surface so the amount of “ions” and the “exposure time to the ions” is important. When an air knife is utilized it “pushes” the “ions” toward the charged surface.
As the ions are pushed, even with the laminar flow of the air knife, some ions recombine actually reducing the strength of the static bar the further the surface is away from the static bar.  The laminar flow minimizes this ion recombination effect but it still happens.  For fast moving webs, or sheet fed operations that can generate significant charges on material, an air knife with a regular static bar will rarely have the strength to remove static charge because the exposure time is not adequate.
In such cases and extra strong static bar can be used with an air knife to increase the amount of ions hitting the charged target to remove the static.
Nex Flow™’s triple X static bar produces significantly more ions than a normal static bar.  In fact, the bar alone without an air knife will remove static at 4” or more from the target on applications such as slitters where you cannot get close.   Combined with an air knife, this static bar can eliminate the static at much greater distances in a reasonable amount of time where the traditional static bar fails. In operations with high static
Combined with an air knife, this static bar can do the job at much greater distances in a reasonable amount of time where the traditional static bar fails and in fact eliminate the static on fast moving webs, or sheet fed operations with high static charge.
It can even eliminate static charges at 20 feet away in a reasonable amount of time!
Again, the key is phrase is “reasonable amount of time”.
As for cleaning a charged surface, the air knife and static bar combination is still an excellent solution – the single most common application for using an air knife and static bar combination.
The higher the charge on the surface and the faster the speed, the stronger the static bar needs to be.  For slower speeds a regular static bar and air knife combination is typically adequate.
HOW DO I KNOW ITS WORKING?
One of the key questions we get is “how do I know if the static bar is working?”  AC testers (sometimes at inflated prices) have sometimes been promoted to check if static bars are working.  However, these AC testers are misleading.
They only indicate if there is power going through the static bars.  It does not indicate if they are working properly at all!
A static bar requires 3600 volts (at very low current of course) at the pins located on the static bar to generate the “corona” which creates the ions that do the job of removing static charge.
This voltage can be easily measured qualitatively with something like our Multicheck which indicates if there is adequate voltage at the pins.
(A light turns green if the voltage is adequate.)  The voltage, if too low can be from a bad static bar, or power supply or may simply be dirty and cleaning can bring the voltage back up to normal.

Multicheck Model 80301

The Low Cost Multicheck Provides a Qualitative Check to make sure the static bars and power supplies are working.

A static meter of course tests the real effectiveness of the static removal system and can pinpoint where the static charge is the highest and also indicates where the charge can come back once it is removed.
The Multicheck is a “must have” low cost device.  A static meter is a more costly option depending on how critical the static charge can be to your operation, and it will give a quantitative assessment of your static problem and evaluate the effectiveness of your solution.
A Static Meter provides a Quantitative Assessment of the static problem and effectiveness of the solution.

Nex Flow™  has extensive experience in static control and can answer your questions and address applications realistically and honestly.  Not every application needs an air knife with the static bar.  But some applications can use a stronger static bar for a more effective solution.

Replace Costly Mist Coolant And Improve Your Factory Productivity And Environment In Machining

The Nex Flow™  Frigid-X™ Vortex Tube Tool Cooling System is used in dry machining applications and can often replace hazardous “mist coolants” in machine operations.
The vortex tube operated system utilizes a stainless steel vortex tube and stainless overall construction which takes compressed air from a small amount of ordinary compressed air and splits it into a hot stream and a cold stream.
The cold end is about 50 degrees F. (28 degrees C) below supply air temperature and is used to “cool” the cutting tool and part while machining.
There is no messy coolant, no hazardous mist, no residue and is low in cost. Quality of the part can be improved and output can be increased significantly more than offsetting air costs.  There are no moving parts, no electricity and essentially maintenance free in operation.
Has a strong Magnetic Base to secure the unit to the machine.
The low cost, compact and portable unit operates utilizing a minimal amount of compressed air.
  • No Moving Parts

The Nex Flow™  Frigid-X™ Vortex Tube Tool Cooling System is superior to other inferior designs using solid, stainless steel construction for long life compared to many flimsy aluminum units on the market.  And yet, it is lower in cost while better in design.
The Nex Flow™  Frigid-X™ Vortex Tube Tool Cooling System comes in various capacities. The larger the capacity the greater the cooling.
The Model 57015FS (single outlet) and Model 57015FD (dual outlet) is suitable for most applications form machining plastics, lighter materials, ceramics and uses only 15 SCFM at 100 psig
Models 57025FS, 57030FS, and 5740FS (single outlet) and Models 57025FD, 57030FD, and 5704FD (dual outlet) use 25, 30, and 40 SCFM at 100 psig respectively with increasing cooling capacity.  These higher capacities would be used on tougher materials such as gear machining and on materials where heat generated from machining can be significant.

Nex Flow Stainless Steel Reversible Drum Angel Idea For Transfer Of Water, Coolant, Gear Oil And Other Light Materials Into And Out Of A Drum.

“Great For Spill Cleanup Of Light Liquids.”
The NEX FLOWTM ALL STAINLESS STEEL Reversible Drum Angel/ Drum Pump / Reversible Drum Vac is a maintenance free system to transfer and/or recover spilled liquids, coolant, sludge, tramp oil, waste water and other liquids using only compressed air.
The NEX FLOWTM Reversible Drum Angel compressed air system attaches easily to any closed head of a drum (30 or 55 US gallon, or 45 Imperial gallon or 205 liter drum) The reversible feature allows you to fill or empty the drum in under two minutes with the simple turn of a knob. The flow rate can be controlled either by a shut-off valve or regulator, or by the knob itself. (The drum should have a nominal wall thickness of 1.5mm (16 gauge) and be in good condition to maintain integrity of system performance and safety.)
Using no electricity, these system last and last, unlike many electrical units that wear out quickly in harsh industrial environments. A built in safety feature prevents overfilling and spills.
Tested against many others in the industry the air consumption of the NEX FLOWTM Reversible Drum Angel is only 19 SCFM while in use at 80 PSIG due to its unique venturi design.  Many others we compared to had higher air use (but often claimed to use less or the same).
The all stainless construction of the NEX FLOWTM Reversible Drum Angel assures long life in rugged environments.

NEW Nex Flow™ Hardened X-Stream™ Air Blade™ Air Knife for Abrasive and Corrosive environments to reduce compressed air use up to 90%

The Nex Flow™ Ultrasonic Leak Detector is the Ideal Maintenance Tool to Reduce Compressed Air Costs due to Leaks.

The Nex Flow™ Ultrasonic Leak Detector is the Ideal Maintenance Tool to Reduce Compressed Air Costs due to Leaks.

Typically only 50% of a compressor’s air is used for production and the rest is “lost” though waste and air leaks.   According to the U.S. Department of Energy “Ultrasonic technology is the best method for finding leaks and verifying repairs.”
The better the system, the more leaks you find and the more money you save!  Always beware of cheap ultrasonic leak detector that just may not do the job.

What to look for…..

THE OBVIOUS:  Look at the headphones. If they are an open walkman style, these will be useless in a noisy plant because they offer absolutely NO protection from the ambient noise which can be at high levels! (After all, why else would you need an ultrasonic lead detector!). So how can you hear the leak in the headphone without protection from the ambient audible noise in the plant? Our headphones completely cover the ear providing 130dB hearing protection. Some competitive units would not be useable in a typical factory where hearing protection is mandatory because the inspector would have to insert ear plugs in his ears. Our headphones protect the ears in such environments, shield you from the loud factory noise and allows you to detect the sound of the leak.

NOT SO OBVIOUS:  Look at frequency range. Our units frequency is centered at 38.4 kHz with an open window of +/- 2kHz. By having a bandwidth this narrow we are able to eliminate other sources of ultrasonic parasite noise. It is absolutely critical that you amplify just this narrow single harmonic band of sound. Some detectors amplify EVERY frequency from 20kHz up to 100kHz. That’s because the manufacturer did not include any low pass filters. This also affects the output signal in the headphones and  affects the directionality of the device. At low frequency it is much more difficult to know where the sound is coming from because the wavelength is larger and more reflective.

ANTICIPATE:  Often you have to locate the leak in some tight and hard to reach area.  For accessing tight areas some firms suggest using a hollow tube (tubular extension) with their system. Ultrasound will not travel well into this tube so the equipment will be less sensitive in hard to reach areas. If the tube is 6″ long for example, that means the sensor is always a minimum of 6″ away from the source. The Nex Flow™ system sensor is at the end of a flexible extension so the sensor is “always” directly exposed to the leak making our equipment much more sensitive. The more sensitive the unit (like ours) you will more easily detect the leak – one you may not even find it with another system that is less flexible.

REASONABLE COST:  Some systems are only a few hundred dollars and deliver low quality (poor headphones and poor frequency range) and some systems are several thousand dollars but have many more features which may be useful, or are better suited to more detailed research.  What is normally needed for leak detection on a maintenance basis is a decent, reasonable cost system like the Nex Flow™ system with the right headphones, right frequency range with flexibility to reach tight areas to detect a leak in a nice portable kit.

The Importance of Nex Flow™static control power supplies in the performance of static elimination

IMPORTANCE OF NEX FLOWTM STATIC CONTROL POWER SUPPLIES IN THE PERFORMANCE OF STATIC ELIMINATION

Nex FlowTM   Power Suppies come with a Two Year Warranty and are Repairable
There are many manufacturers of static eliminators but with widely varying quality.
There’s been many times where we have replaced competitive static elimination systems with quality Nex FlowTM products simply because the competitive product fails prematurely.
Key features to look for in static elimination:
1. Strong pins on the static bar – not weak ones that can easily break
2. Shielded Cable – poorly shielded cable or badly shielded cable can cause premature failure if not offset from a metal ground properly
3. Strong Power supplies Power Supplies are very important in that without them the static eliminators will not work.  Often the first item to go is not the static bar, it is the power supply.
Reasons for failure of an anti- static system:
1. Overload on the power supply – too many static bars drawing too much current can overheat the power supply.  Nex FlowTM has the expertise to quote the proper systems to avoid overload.
2. Incorrect connection of the cable to the power supply – causing a strain on the system and higher current overheating the power supply
3. Weakened transformers in the power supply.  Power supplies used for static eliminators vary from 5 kV to 7 or 8 kV.  Some studies have shown that 5 kV power supplies do not last as long simply because the transformers become too weak over a shorter time.  You need at least 3.6 kV at a static “pin” to create the corona which makes the “ions” that remove the static.
Accounting for losses in the cable, the difference between 5 and 3.6 kV is not very much and over time every transformer weakens Nex FlowTM units have replaced  several competitive units that use 5 KV power supplies over the years since some never even lasted a year!!!
Our systems use only fully shielded cable.  One way to tell if a cable is really shielded is to take  an AC tester and just run it along a cable.  If it lights up, it is NOT shielded.
It also uses a special patented connector that secures a better connection than simple bayonet type connectors.
One time we had to address a fire caused by a competitive unit which seemed to have been caused by the bayonet connector not being properly connected.
The Nex FlowTM systems are all 7-8 kV voltage output for long life.  A special transformer is used that also produces relatively balanced positive and negative voltage output.  The higher voltage allows for the longer life of the system as well as the power supply itself.
Types of  Power Supplies:
Nex FlowTM has a power supply which is approved for North American use (CSA) , and another approved to European standards (CE approved).  The systems are the same except for the “box” which needs to meet IP 54 standards in Europe.  This power supply is equivalent to NEMA 4 standard in North America and also used here is food and pharmaceutical applications.  We have two outlet and four outlet power supplies.
Nex FlowTM has power supplies with a build in detector to indicate if it is working and also a unit complete with a meter and alarm connection for extra monitoring if the static application is critical.
Contact Nex FlowTM for the expertise you need to address your static control applications with quality products that will last.
